Nowadays, most people work in front of a computer. At the end of the day, your eyes hurt, your back hurts, even your wrist. Unfortunately, because of these aches, a number of new injuries appeared. One of them is known as Carpal tunnel syndrome. The blame for these injuries is carried by the unnatural wrist posture when typing or using the mouse. For you own good, search for an ergonomic mouse pad that is suited to your needs.

There are few steps to follow in finding the best pad for you. Look for a mouse pad where your hand will find its natural position. The wrist rest should be fixed on the mouse pad, or at least stabilized by some means so that it won't slip from under your hand while moving. Find a wrist rest covered with a soft material. It will help reduce the pressure on your wrist. Your palm should have space for comfortable movement on the pad, while your wrist stays on the wrist rest. Last, check if the wrist rest has the right size. Measuring the wrist rest from front to back, it should have at least 1.5 inches depth. Width is not important as long as it doesn't incommodes your entire wrist.

A good ergonomic mouse pad has on the interior four-sided pad made out from non-skid polymer and the top surface specially made so that it could support a computer mouse. Three of the pad sides have a vertical sidewall and the top surface closer to the fourth side form a curved area to give more comfort and ease the pressure in the hand and wrist.

All ergonomic mouse pads have different design options and are made of a number of materials. The first step in the ergonomic mouse pad industry was the gel wrist rest. A little while after that, mouse pad with fixed wrist rests became available on the market. Since then, a number of new development possibilities came up.

Another type of ergonomic mouse pad is the memory foam mouse pas, which are extremely comfortable. The gel was replaced with the memory foam in the wrist rest area or the entire mouse pad was made out of memory foam, allowing you to rest both your hand and your wrist on the pad.

Lap mouse pads are another kind of ergonomic mouse pads that have a kind of bag attached. This bag gives you the choice to decide where is the most comfortable place for your arm to rest.

Many of you never heard of it, but in 2006, the ShoulderCool mouse pad was launched on the market. It is very new and very strange, but not the most practical choice you would want to make.
