The fingerprint access system is already a popular protection method encountered even in laptops, cell phones and recently in computer mice. One of the few mouse models using this technology at the moment is this optical mouse with 2 buttons, scroll wheel and 800 dpi sensor, available at
Chinavasion .
It gives access to the computer only to the right users and serves also as a decryption gate for encrypted files and drives, besides website logins. You can set it to remember up to 10 fingerprints of your family members or office colleagues, and keep your sensitive information protected. This is accomplished using a pattern-based algorithm which finds a central point in the fingerprint image aligned exactly as the stored template. It looks at arch, whorl, and loop patterns.
The
USB Fingerprint Security Optical Mouse has a 508 dpi finger sensor with a field size of 192 x 16 pixels and 256 grey levels of 8 bits per pixel. It has a false rejection rate of 1 in 1,000 and a false acceptance rate of 1 in 1,000,000.
The fingerprint access system uses a 256 bit encryption algorithm for securing files or entire drives, while the mouse is compatible with Windows operating system up to Vista, using a USB 5 VDC power source.
You can setup the fingerprint access system via the special user-friendly software that comes with the mouse.
It measures 105 x 33 x 47 mm and is available at a price of $37.50.
