How to Troubleshoot Touch Pad Mouse Problem

Touchpad is the most sensible part of the laptop. Even a slight ignorance can result into its failure and you are left with no other option but to replace it and get a new one installed, or use an external optical mouse.




Touchpad of a laptop is heavily used by its user. Most of them are designed for longer durability and better performance. Sometimes certain accident causes touch pad to stop working. There are certain ways to troubleshoot problems related to touchpad mouse without having any kind of replacement. Basically laptop’s touch pad has same functionality as that of a mouse for desktop. Two buttons available at the bottom of the touchpad works as left and right button and used for left and right click functionality.

Very common reason for malfunctioning of touch pad may be damage by spilling of substances like water, food item, dirt etc. Try not to use your laptop while eating or drinking as it is very likely that edibles in your hand can drop at the keyboard.

If your touchpad stops responding suddenly, the first step should be to check the settings. Visit control panel option and click on the mouse icon and check whether you have made any kind of changes in that menu or not? If yes, set it to default option. Even after doing this, touchpad is not responding then you need to get it repaired or replaced.

Even if you are smart enough and want to replace touchpad on your own, don’t even try to do it is a tricky business and a small negligence can cost much. An alternative is to use external USB mouse. Most of the laptops have USB ports and Bluetooth option available now days and you can use either wired or wireless optical mouse depending upon your choice. By paying small amount you can get one good quality mouse for your laptop. Even if your touchpad is working fine, it is advisable to use external mouse whenever possible as it is easy to work with mouse rather than touchpad.

Very first sign of defect in touchpad is when cursor starts jumping or getting double clicked by itself. Follow some basic rules in order to get rid of this problem. Try to adjust the sensitivity of touchpad from control panel. After certain period, keep cleaning your laptop using a good cleaning solution. This will help you in removing excess layer of dirt and dust from keyboard, screen and touchpad. Rough usage of touchpad is considered to be the primary cause of its failure. Another possible solution could be removing and reinstalling touchpad driver from the device manager option. Sometimes virus may affect the drivers resulting in their failure. You can access device manager option by going through control panel option.

If you want to replace the touchpad, try to get the best one for your laptop. Before purchasing make sure that the touchpad that you have purchased matches the configuration of your laptop. Also check the price list on the internet before heading towards the market as price may vary from shop to shop.
