New A4Tech X7 Laser

Published by Bogdan Alex, on March 25th, 2008, in the categories: Game Mouse

A4Tech might not bare too many years in quality product design on its shoulders as Logitech does, but at least they got an array of damn good gaming-grade mice. Yes, it’s the X7 family and at CeBit this year A4Tech cared to present a new member, though it didn’t mention the actual serial code.

As a gaming device, the new X7 laser mouse offers some interesting features for FPS players. The 2500 dpi maximum sensitivity is not something that impresses us these days, but FPS games this is quite sufficient. The sensitivity can be changed on-the-fly by a simple push of a button, and there’s no need to exit while in the middle of a fierce battle. You can choose among 6 predefined sensitivity levels.

Another useful option, although it’s no new addition to the X7 mice, is the burst fire button that has been redesigned so that you can switch it on and off. This option lets you fire three shots with a click of button, similar to the burst fire mode on the actual M16 US Army rifles. This new X7 mouse is the first in the family to include a weight system that you can move around in order to customize your preferred feel or just alter the weight.

A4Tech claims that this model has already been in retail for a couple of months in Asia, and it should hit Europe in the following months. Expect a €50 price-tag.

I have this model for over 7 months and it was PERFECT.
But now I have a LITTLE problem with the scroll wheel and button. The scroll wheel cannot be used anymore because of its chaotic behavior - the page that you what to scroll goes up and down, but it doesn't go in the direction yo want :)). And if you try to press the scroll wheel to navigate through pages same thing occurs. It's like somehow the scroll wheel had a little party and got high :))

Is there anyone else who encounter this problem?

Ummm, yes, I have the same problem with the scroll, and am still searching for a solution... :S

OMG, I'm sorry for the double post, but a few seconds after I wrote the comment, I just blew air into the scroll and now it works... So I guess it was the dust... :))) my life is complete...

Hi, I blow air in my scroll and it works for about 5 minutes :/ Than it still acts a bit chaotic, not 100% chaotic, but still about 50% :/

Any solutions? Thanks in advance! :)

Old story. Actually THERE IS NO WAY to fix it.

The problem is some dirt entering into the very closed scroller mechanism.

I've opened the mouse, voiding my warranty.

Opened the scroller, which involves bending the metal parts, lightly damaging the plastic core while trying to take it out. Cleaned the small plastic core. Cleaned the inners of the scroller box using a small screwdriver. Closed the box back.

This harmed the surface of the core, which partially killed the 'click' action and precision of the wheel. Eg. turn 1 step up, nothing happens, 1 step more and you get 2 ups at the same time. I don't recommend doing what I did, the core is very small and hard to take it out with some other smaller parts and put it back without doing any harm.

This fixed the bouncy action for some months, however the mouse is no more enjoyable. And now the bouncy action is back again.

This is a serious bug of this wonderful mouse, and should be taken care of by A4Tech in future versions.

For some odd reason I was googling "Will the computer mouse ever be replaced" and I ended up here O_O I just scoured your site, and looks like you have a nice site hear. Just wondering, if you can write an article about my search term. Would be an interesting read.

Confirmed, the "blow in the scroll" method works, just tried it and it solved my random up/down scrolling problem.

    Tnx for the tip!
